Know Your Options: Types of Replacement Windows

Like all other aspects of your home, windows succumb to the elements of weather over time. The extent of damage will determine if you should opt for window repair or replacement.
You never know the number of window replacement options available until it is time to replace some windows in your home. The multiple options can make it difficult for you to make a choice.
Selecting a replacement that suits the window type, and configurations is essential but not easy. But knowing your options helps a lot in making the right decision.
Here is a comprehensive list of the types of window replacement to help you understand the opportunities and what will suit what.
Why invest in window replacement
Although opting for replacement windows involves a financial investment, it also presents many benefits. A suitable window replacement, especially when associated with a needed window repair, adds energy efficiency, provides curb appeal, and is easy to maintain.
Window replacement increases the comfort in your home, and the suggested models of windows offer longevity.
Double-hung windows
Double-hung styling is a classic window replacement design that fits many homes. The double-hung window has top and bottom sashes that can be opened.
The dual opening is excellent for families with pets and children. Lifting only the top sash allows air inside the home while keeping pets and children safe inside the house. These windows are also easy to clean and maintain.
Single-hung windows
Single-hung windows are like the double-hung windows, but the top sash is fixed. You cannot push it up or down as you do with the double-hung windows.
The single-hung window is common in areas with high winds or coastal regions.
The single-hung window replacement is also economical when comparing the double-hung option.
Sliding Windows
Unlike double-and single-hung windows, sliding windows open horizontally. The horizontal opening is excellent for areas where you do not have enough space to open hung windows easily.
These windows are wider than other double-and single-hung windows but not as tall. They are great for areas where you want windows that allow you to see a view without obstructions.
These windows are easy to use and allow more cool air into your home during the hot months.
Picture windows
You wouldn’t want a wall blocking a beautiful garden, mountain, or landscape view. To avoid this, a picture window installation is a great option. This window type is fixed, and you cannot open it.
Picture windows are also usually wide with no frames allowing you to enjoy the view from inside or outside without any obstructions.
People who use this window replacement style in their homes pair it with other window types throughout the house, ensuring functionality and aesthetic charm.
Glass block windows
Glass blocks are designed to bring sunlight into the home while maintaining privacy. These glass blocks are not see-through. Glass block windows are not only useful as windows, but they can be used as bathroom walls.
Basement hopper windows
Basement hopper windows are small and used in areas with limited space. They open from the top and move downwards. These windows allow ventilation into small spaces such as the basement and bathrooms.
